An Open Letter from Keira Walsh to Chelsea, England Football, and the Whole Football Community
To my Chelsea family, England teammates, devoted supporters, and the whole football community,
As I sit down to write this, I am overcome with thankfulness. Football has been my life, my passion, and my most valuable instructor. This journey—filled with struggles, successes, and moments of pure joy—would not have been possible without the love, support, and faith of so many people. Today, I’d like to say thank you.
To Chelsea Football Club, stepping onto the pitch in blue has been one of the biggest honors of my career. From the first day, I was welcomed into an environment that valued ambition, hard effort, and unity. The coaching staff’s unfailing trust, my amazing teammates, and the devoted fans have made every struggle worthwhile. Playing for a club with such a rich history and unshakable devotion to excellence has influenced me not only as a player, but also as a human being.
To my England teammates and the entire national team structure, representing my country has been an absolute dream. From my first cap to raising championships together, every occasion has served as a reminder of the power of teamwork and perseverance. Wearing the Three Lions on my chest fills me with incomparable pride. Thank you to the coaches who have guided me, the staff who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes, and my Lionesses teammates who have fought alongside me. We have inspired a generation, and I am really happy to be a part of this wonderful movement.
The fans—those who have supported me through every pass, tackle, and goal—are the lifeblood of our sport. Your unfailing support has driven me to do my best, even in the most difficult situations. Whether you’re in the stands, on social media, or watching from afar, your love and support mean everything to me.
Thank you to the entire football community for creating an environment in which aspirations can come true. The expansion of the women’s game reflects the enthusiasm and dedication of so many people. I’m eternally grateful to be a part of this progress.
Football has given me so much, but the people are what actually make it unique. From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
With love and thanks.
