An Epochal Open Letter from Sawyer Robertson to Baylor Bears Family
To the Baylor Bears, their supporters, and the whole Baylor University community,
As I sit down to write this letter, I am overwhelmed with gratitude, reflection, and an enormous sense of appreciation for the great adventure we have had together. It’s difficult to put into words how much these years have meant to me, but I’ll do my best to explain the love and respect I feel for this program and everyone involved.
Baylor has always welcomed me as a person, not just an athlete. Thank you to the coaches who saw my talent and trusted me to lead this offensive. Your advice, patience, and belief influenced not only my development as a quarterback, but also as a man. Coach Dave Aranda and the entire staff have developed an environment based on trust, accountability, and purpose. I will always be grateful for the opportunity to play under your direction.
To my teammates—my brothers—you are the lifeblood of my time here. We created something special with each practice rep, hard-fought game, and locker room encounter. We built lifetime relationships, and the memories we created will never fade. We challenged one other to be better, dig deeper, and fight for something greater than ourselves. I will always remember the things we learnt together, on and off the field.
Baylor fans, you are unparalleled. You filled McLane Stadium with energy, hope, and an unwavering roar, lifting us in our highs and supporting us in our lows. Your enthusiasm fueled us, and your belief propelled us. Whether it was a nail-biting comeback or a painful loss, your presence remained constant. For that, I really thank you.
And thank you to the institution, professors, and students who helped me grow as a student and leader outside of football. Baylor is more than a football program; it’s a community founded on religion, excellence, and love. I am happy to have worn the green and gold, and even more proud to have represented this university with distinction.
This part of my life has been transformational. I depart with a grateful heart, a sharpened mind from experience, and a spirit enhanced by those around me. No matter where life takes me, Baylor will always be a part of who I am. It’ll always be home.
To the future generation of Bears, cherish every moment, accept every challenge, and never take anything for granted. This environment will shape you in ways you can’t comprehend.
