An Open Epochal Letter from Penn State Wrestling Coach Cael Sanderson.

To the Penn State Nittany Lions, our amazing fans, and the whole Nittany Lion community,

I am writing this letter full of gratitude, appreciation, and pride. As I think on my time at Penn State Wrestling, I’m reminded that no accomplishment, championship, or moment of glory occurs in isolation. It is the result of a collaborative effort—one founded on unshakable support, an unbreakable friendship, and a shared dedication to success.

From the minute I arrived in Happy Valley, I was greeted by a community that values hard work, discipline, and endurance. You embraced me with open arms, entrusted me with the duty of continuing on a storied wrestling tradition. Because of your faith, encouragement, and passion, we have not only maintained but also elevated the Penn State Wrestling tradition.

You, our faithful fans, are the program’s heartbeat. Your presence in Rec Hall and the Bryce Jordan Center, your voices reverberating throughout each game, and your unshakable faith in our team inspire us beyond words. Whether at home or on the road, your energy motivates our wrestlers to dig deeper, battle more, and never give up. You remind us that we fight not just for ourselves, but for something much greater—a family, a history, and a legacy that lasts decades.

To my wrestlers, both past and present, you are the heart of my adventure. Your unwavering pursuit of greatness, sacrifices, and commitment to the game have defined what it means to wear the Blue and White. I’ve seen you grow, overcome adversity, and emerge as champions—not only on the mat, but in life. This is the actual spirit of Penn State wrestling.

And to the whole Penn State community—faculty, staff, alumni, and supporters—you have built an environment that fosters dreams, makes the impossible possible, and produces champions. This university has been more than a workplace; it has been a home, a family, and a place that has impacted my career and purpose in ways I could not have predicted.

I am really appreciative for every moment, hardship, and triumph we have shared. We created something remarkable together. And together, we shall continue to write the next chapter in greatness.

Thank you for everything. We are Penn State!

With appreciation,
Cael Sanderson,

Head Coach at Penn State Wrestling.
