St. Louis Blues and Brayden Schenn Split Up Due to “Unforeseen Circumstances”
2025 February — CBS News
Brayden Schenn, a center with the St. Louis Blues, has unexpectedly agreed to leave the team due to “unforeseen circumstances,” the team stated in a statement.
Since joining the Blues in 2017, Schenn has been a vital member of the squad and was chosen the 24th captain in franchise history in September 2023. The seasoned forward has been a leader on and off the ice and was instrumental in St. Louis’ Stanley Cup victory in 2019.
“Brayden and the organization made this decision with a great deal of mutual respect,” Blues general manager Doug Armstrong stated. “Over the years, Brayden has dedicated himself to our squad, and we are grateful for that. Both sides agreed that this was the best course of action, despite the fact that it is a challenging step.
Though there has been conjecture about a possible trade or a personal issue impacting Schenn’s standing with the team, the precise nature of the “unforeseen circumstances” is yet unknown. The Blues were reportedly looking into trade options for their skipper early this season, but any move was anticipated to involve a rival team.
In a brief message, Schenn thanked the Blues organization and the supporters.
“St. Louis has been my home for the past several years, and I’m grateful for everything this city and this team have given me,” Schenn stated. “Although it wasn’t a simple choice, I think this is the best one right now. I will always treasure my time spent as a Blue.
Whether Schenn will be traded, sign with another NHL team, or take a break from the game is still up in the air. As the crisis progresses, more information is anticipated in the days ahead.
