Morgantown, West Virginia — In what will be regarded as a watershed moment in West Virginia Mountaineers women’s basketball history, two of the program’s best talents received national recognition for their leadership, resilience, and excellence. Head Coach Mark Kellogg has been voted Coach of the Year, while the dynamic and tenacious JJ Quinerly has won the prestigious Most Valuable Player (MVP) title.
The announcement spurred joy throughout the West Virginia University community, with fans, students, and alumni taking pleasure in what the Mountaineers have accomplished under Kellogg’s new leadership and Quinerly’s great play.
Kellogg has exceeded all expectations in his first season as Morgantown’s head coach. Following successful coaching stints at Stephen F. Austin and Baylor, he went into a program in transition and immediately began building a new culture of toughness, trust, and unity. JJ Quinerly’s fantastic play throughout the season has been at the heart of this metamorphosis. Quinerly was a key component of the Mountaineers’ success, averaging more than 19 points per game while anchoring one of the conference’s most tenacious defensive efforts. Known for her speed, court vision, and clutch exploits, Quinerly has enthralled fans and perplexed opponents all season.
