CBS NEWS: Quarterback Chris Denson from Plant City, Florida, Commits to Clemson for 2025 Recruiting Cycle
Plant City, FL – April 10, 2025 — In a major recruiting win for the Clemson Tigers, Chris Denson, a highly touted four-star quarterback from Plant City, Florida, has officially announced his commitment to Clemson University for the 2025 college football recruiting class.
Denson, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound dual-threat quarterback from Plant City High School, made the announcement via social media on Wednesday evening, choosing the Tigers over other top programs including Florida State, Georgia, and Miami. His decision marks a significant boost to Clemson’s quarterback room, as the Tigers look to reload for the future under head coach Dabo Swinney.
“I want to thank God, my family, my coaches, and everyone who has helped me along this journey,” Denson said in his commitment post. “After much prayer and consideration, I’m excited to announce that I am 100% committed to Clemson University! Go Tigers!”
Denson is ranked among the top 10 quarterbacks in the nation for the 2025 class, according to 247Sports, and is considered one of the best offensive prospects out of the state of Florida. Known for his strong arm, quick decision-making, and athleticism, Denson threw for over 3,200 yards and 31 touchdowns during his junior season, while also rushing for over 600 yards and 10 more scores.
Recruiting analysts say Denson’s commitment to Clemson could reshape the ACC’s quarterback landscape in the coming years. “Chris Denson is a game-changer,” said Brandon Huffman, national recruiting editor at 247Sports. “He’s got the tools to compete at a high level early in his college career. Clemson’s offense will be in good hands with him at the helm.”
Clemson has long been a destination for elite quarterbacks, with recent stars such as Trevor Lawrence and Deshaun Watson leading the program to national titles. Denson said that legacy played a role in his decision, as well as his relationship with the Clemson coaching staff.
“Coach Swinney and Coach Streeter made me feel like family from day one,” Denson said. “They believe in me not just as a player, but as a person. That means a lot.”
His commitment adds to what is shaping up to be a top-10 recruiting class for Clemson in 2025. Denson becomes the Tigers’ first quarterback pledge of the cycle and the sixth commitment overall. His early decision also allows Clemson to focus on building chemistry and leadership around a future face of the program.
Plant City High School head coach Marcus Bell praised his quarterback’s leadership and maturity. “Chris is a special player, but more importantly, he’s a special young man,” Bell said. “Clemson is getting someone who works hard, leads by example, and raises the level of everyone around him.”
As the countdown to National Signing Day continues, Clemson fans have reason to be optimistic about the future. With Chris Denson now in the fold, the Tigers’ quarterback legacy appears poised to continue.
