Kansas State University’s Head Football Coach, Chris Klieman, recently announced the suspension of Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Passing Game Coordinator Van Malone. This judgement comes in response to charges made by former Wildcats wide receiver Tre Spivey.
Tre Spivey was a redshirt freshman who had been with the Wildcats for two seasons. Spivey, a member of Kansas State’s 2023 recruiting class, saw minimal involvement in his first year, appearing in two games and recording one reception for 24 yards. In the next season, he became a more substantial player, particularly in the latter half of the season, finishing with 14 catches for 160 yards and one score. Notably, his most impressive efforts came against Arizona State and Cincinnati, where he had nine receptions for 119 yards.
Spivey revealed his desire to enter the transfer portal in December 2024, which was a huge loss for the Wildcats because he was expected to start the next season.
Shortly after, he committed to the University of Arizona, where he would help bolster the Wildcats’ offensive lineup.
Spivey’s precise claims against Coach Malone have not been made public. However, in reaction to these charges, Coach Klieman emphasised the significance of taking such situations very seriously. “We are committed to maintaining the integrity and reputation of our football program,” according to Klieman. “Coach Malone has been suspended from all coaching responsibilities pending a full inquiry. We believe in due process and will guarantee that all parties are treated properly throughout this period.”
Van Malone, a key member of Kansas State’s coaching staff, is generally acknowledged for his contributions to the team’s defensive strategies. His suspension comes at a critical time for the Wildcats, as they grapple with the consequences of these claims for their coaching dynamics.

The Wildcats’ football program must remain focused and cohesive while the investigation is ongoing. Together, the players and staff are reaffirming their dedication to the team’s principles and objectives. “We’re a family,” said defensive captain Eli Huggins, “but it’s a difficult position. On and off the field, we will continue to be dedicated to our objective and support one another.”
