Khamari Brooks breaks down in tears as he commits to Georgia Bulldogs.

Khamari Brooks, an excellent 2026 four-star edge rusher from North Oconee High School in Bogart, Georgia, made an emotional announcement to the Georgia Bulldogs. Brooks’ decision to stay in his home state over major colleges Alabama and Clemson energised the Bulldogs’ fan base and cemented Georgia’s position as a prime destination for top defensive talent.

The news was made in the North Oconee High School gymnasium, in front of family, teammates, coaches, and supporters. With three hats in front of him representing Georgia, Alabama, and Clemson, Brooks chose the red-and-black Georgia cap. As he placed it on his head, he was filled with emotion, tears flowing down his cheeks as the audience cheered and applauded.

“This is a dream come true,” Brooks exclaimed, his voice full with enthusiasm. “To be able to represent my home state, play for the University of Georgia, and be a part of such an amazing program means everything to me. I’d like to thank my family, coaches, and everyone else who has encouraged me on my path. This was not an easy decision, but it seems right in my heart.

The Bulldogs’ recruitment of Brooks was spearheaded by head coach Kirby Smart and defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann, who made him a major target for their 2026 class. The program’s previous dominance in college football, which includes numerous national titles and a strong track record of generating NFL-ready athletes, influenced Brooks’ selection.

“I grew up watching the Bulldogs and dreaming of wearing that jersey,” Brooks told reporters. “Coach Smart and his staff demonstrated that they care about me not only as a player, but also as a person. Their ambition for my future, both on and off the pitch, made this option obvious to me.”

Brooks also thanked Alabama and Clemson for their help in his recruitment. “Both programs are fantastic, and this was not an easy decision. But, in the end, remaining home and serving Georgia seemed like the greatest option for me and my family.”

Brooks’ decision to Georgia is a significant win for the Bulldogs, since he is one of the most highly regarded edge rushers in the 2026 class. For Brooks, it marks the start of a journey to realise his lifelong desire of making a difference in Athens and beyond.
