“I’m Not Done Yet”: Nicki Collen stuns college basketball world, rejects jaw-dropping $7.5 million offer from Georgia and Notre Dame to stay with Baylor Bears

WACO, Texas — April 11, 2025 (CBS Sports)

In a powerful and passionate declaration of loyalty, Baylor Bears women’s basketball head coach Nicki Collen has officially turned down what sources call a jaw-dropping $7.5 million offer from two powerhouse programs — the Georgia Bulldogs and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish — reaffirming her commitment to stay in Waco and finish what she started with the Bears.

“I’m not done yet,” Collen stated at a surprise press appearance on Friday morning. “We’ve created something truly unique here at Baylor. This program, community, and these ladies mean everything to me. I have no plans other than to be Baylor’s head coach.

Collen, who took over the Baylor program in 2021 after the legendary Kim Mulkey departed, has established her own legacy by combining competitive success with a player-first approach. Under her direction, the Bears have remained a force in the Big 12 and on the national scene, earning a reputation for their fast-paced style, defensive intensity, and team culture based on unity and empowerment.

Georgia and Notre Dame, both with illustrious histories and large resources, reportedly offered not only record-breaking cash conditions, but also considerable control over staffing, facilities, and recruiting infrastructure. According to industry insiders, Collen would have become one of the highest-paid coaches in the history of women’s collegiate basketball.

But Collen’s decision went beyond money.

“Money isn’t everything,” she explained. “It is about purpose, passion, and people. And I feel aligned with what we’re doing at Baylor. “Our mission is bigger than basketball.”

Her choice has sent shockwaves across the college basketball community. Many many predicted Collen’s departure, especially after leading the Bears to three consecutive Sweet 16 appearances and building a top-three national recruiting class this year. Her continued commitment, however, represents a vote of confidence in the future of Baylor women’s basketball.

Mack Rhoades, Baylor’s athletic director, complimented Collen for his leadership and ethics.

“Coach Collen exemplifies the finest of college athletics: dedication, excellence, and vision. Her decision to stay at Baylor says a lot about the culture she has helped create. We are pleased to have her continue to head our program.”

Players also expressed excitement and passion on social media. Jayla Thomas, a star point guard, tweeted, “The coach is staying!! Let’s go!!! #UnfinishedBusiness.” Sophomore forward Mikayla Reese said, “We ride for Coach Collen. “Always have, always will.”

Nicki Collen isn’t just staying; she’s going all in. Her message is clear: unfinished business awaits in Waco, and the Baylor Bears are eager to pursue greatness with their leader at the helm.

Stay tuned—the Collen period is far from over.
