To the West Virginia Mountaineers Football team, our loyal fans, and the whole WVU community,

As I sit down to compose this letter, I am filled with appreciation and reflection. Wearing the Gold and Blue has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. More than the practices, games, or statistics, the people—my teammates, coaches, and every fan who has supported me—have characterized my Mountaineer experience.

WVU Football QB Nicco Marchiol Perseveres Despite Messy Performance In Backyard Brawl

When I initially arrived at school in Morgantown, I was a young quarterback with a dream. I was aware of the history, heritage, and duty that come with playing for West Virginia, but I could not have anticipated the kind of love and support I would receive here. This community has been more than just a backdrop to my career; it has been a family, a source of strength, and a supportive atmosphere in which I can grow not only as a player but also as a man.

From the grueling days of training camp to the thunderous roars at Milan Puskar Stadium, I could feel your enthusiasm and belief. Mountaineer supporters are unlike any other—loyal in victory, steadfast in defeat, and always ready to remind us why football here is so much more than just a game. You’ve taught me that being a Mountaineer means carrying a spirit of perseverance, tenacity, and solidarity wherever life takes you.

My teammates have been like brothers in every sense of the word. We pushed and challenged each other, and we all celebrated together. The relationships we formed on and off the field will endure far beyond football. Thank you to the coaching staff for your wisdom, patience, and trust. You believed in me, even when I was still learning how to believe in myself.

And the larger WVU community—the students, alumni, and residents of West Virginia—welcomed me as one of their own. You provided me a second home. Whether I was walking through school, talking with people in town, or seeing the Flying WV sign across the state, I felt a connection to something much bigger than myself.

This chapter of my life has been remarkable, and while my football journey continues, I will always cherish the lessons, morals, and memories of my time as a Mountaineer. Thank you for shaping me, supporting me, and reminding me of what it means to actually belong.

I am forever grateful.
Nicco Marchiol
