Clippers rumors: Insider predicts Kawhi Leonard and James Harden

Los Angeles Clippers insider Law Murray of The Athletic recently shared his perspective on the team’s offseason strategy, particularly concerning James Harden and Kawhi Leonard. In an interview on HoopsHype’s YouTube channel, Murray predicted that Harden would opt out of his current contract but re-sign with the Clippers on a deal that aligns with Leonard’s, setting 2027 as a pivotal year for the franchise’s future decisions .

This approach suggests that the Clippers aim to maintain their core duo of Harden and Leonard through the next two seasons, focusing on continuity rather than pursuing a third high-priced star. The departure of Paul George has shifted the team’s strategy, emphasizing the existing partnership between Harden and Leonard .

Despite a disappointing Game 7 loss to the Denver Nuggets, where Harden scored only seven points, the Clippers’ management appears committed to this duo. Team president Lawrence Frank referred to Harden and Leonard as the “foundation” of the franchise, indicating a belief in their potential to lead the team to success .

However, with both players advancing in age—Harden nearing 36 and Leonard turning 34—the window for a championship run is narrowing. The Clippers’ front office faces the challenge of maximizing this period, possibly by seeking additional talent to support their star duo .
