Michigan State Stays No. 1 in USA TODAY Sports College Baseball Poll; Texas Rises to No. 2

The Michigan State Spartans continue their impressive run this

season, holding firm at No. 1 in the latest USA TODAY Sports college baseball poll. Behind consistent pitching, aggressive base running, and timely hitting, the Spartans remain the team to beat as they head into the final stretch of the regular season.

Hot on their heels is Texas, which climbs to No. 2 following a dominant few weeks in SEC play. The Longhorns are peaking at the right time, with a deep rotation, improved bullpen performance, and a lineup that’s come alive in high-pressure games. Their steady rise adds intrigue to the rankings, as they now sit just behind Michigan State in a race that could shift quickly with upcoming conference showdowns.

Rounding out the top five are North Carolina, Arkansas, and Oregon. North Carolina continues to make noise in the ACC, thanks to a power-packed offense and solid fielding. Arkansas leans heavily on its elite pitching staff and defensive consistency, while Oregon has quietly built one of the most balanced teams in the country—strong on the mound, disciplined at the plate, and capable of grinding out close wins.

Just outside the top five, traditional powerhouses like LSU, Vanderbilt, and Florida remain in striking distance, each looking to make a final push before postseason seeding is determined. With such a tight race at the top, any slip-up could lead to a significant shift in the standings.

For Michigan State, the challenge now is sustaining their momentum under pressure. Being No. 1 brings a target, and with teams like Texas closing in, every series matters. The Spartans will need to stay sharp if they want to maintain their position through conference play and into the NCAA tournament.

With less than a month before the regionals begin, the countdown to Omaha has officially begun—and the battle for supremacy is far from over.
