Former Texas Longhorns wide receiver simply cannot stay out of trouble as his off-field struggles continue

Former Texas Longhorns wide receiver Johntay Cook II has once again found himself in legal trouble, marking his second arrest within a two-week span. On February 15, 2025, Cook was arrested in Grayson County, Texas, for possession of less than two ounces of marijuana. This incident follows his earlier arrest on February 4 in Tarrant County, where he faced misdemeanor charges of property theft and interference with public duties.

Cook’s promising football career has been overshadowed by these off-field issues. A standout at DeSoto High School, he was a five-star recruit in the 2023 class and joined the University of Texas with high expectations. During his freshman year, he recorded eight receptions for 136 yards. However, his sophomore season saw limited improvement, with Cook making only eight catches for 137 yards and two touchdowns. Midway through the 2024 season, he left the Longhorns and entered the transfer portal.

In January 2025, Cook briefly transferred to the University of Washington. However, his tenure with the Huskies was short-lived, as he was dismissed from the team just 48 hours after arriving on campus.

These recent legal issues have cast a shadow over Cook’s athletic prospects. The combination of multiple arrests and team dismissals raises significant concerns about his future in collegiate athletics.
