The St. Louis Blues made franchise history on Saturday night, securing their 12th consecutive victory with a dramatic 5-4 win over the Colorado Avalanche at Enterprise Center. It was a night to remember for fans and players alike, as the Blues continued their stunning late-season surge in the Western Conference playoff race.

Led by forward Robert Thomas, who notched a goal and three assists, the Blues overcame a relentless Avalanche team in what turned into a back-and-forth thriller. Thomas extended his personal point streak to eight games and cemented his role as one of the team’s primary offensive catalysts.

“It’s a special feeling,” Thomas said postgame. “We’re playing with a lot of confidence right now, and every guy in that locker room is stepping up. Tonight was a big test against a great team, and we found a way to get it done.”

The Avalanche, who sit near the top of the conference standings, tested the Blues throughout the game, responding to each goal with counterattacks of their own. Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar each recorded two points, and goalie Alexandar Georgiev made 29 saves but was ultimately undone by the Blues’ relentless forecheck and fast-paced transition play.

St. Louis jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first period thanks to goals from Pavel Buchnevich and Jake Neighbours. However, Colorado roared back to tie the game before the intermission, setting the stage for a roller-coaster second and third period.

Jordan Kyrou and Colton Parayko both added goals in the second, while the Blues defense weathered a furious Avalanche push in the final 10 minutes. Colorado’s Valeri Nichushkin brought the game within one with a power play goal late in the third, but goaltender Jordan Binnington held firm with a series of clutch saves in the closing minutes.

“It’s not always pretty,” Blues head coach Jim Montgomery said. “But the guys are buying in. They’re playing for each other, and it’s showing on the scoreboard. Breaking a record like this isn’t easy in this league, especially against the caliber of teams we’ve faced recently.”

The win propels the Blues to 42-29-5 on the season, keeping them in strong contention for a wild card spot with just a few games remaining in the regular season. It also marks a remarkable turnaround under Montgomery, who took over mid-season and has instilled discipline, structure, and a revived locker room energy.

Montgomery praised his team’s resilience and leadership, singling out veterans like Brayden Schenn and Justin Faulk for setting the tone both on and off the ice.

The 12-game winning streak surpasses the previous franchise record of 11 straight, set during the memorable 2018-2019 season that culminated in the Blues’ first Stanley Cup title.

With just four games remaining, the Blues now face a tough schedule ahead, including matchups with playoff-bound Winnipeg and Edmonton. Still, fans and analysts alike are beginning to wonder — could history be repeating itself?

For now, though, St. Louis can savor a historic night and an unforgettable performance that just might be the spark they need to make another deep postseason run.
