The 2024 AMA Pro Motocross Championship is set to commence this weekend at Fox Raceway in Pala, California. As the season opener approaches, several riders are dealing with injuries that will affect their participation.
450 Class:
Cooper Webb: Webb had been dealing with a torn UCL in his thumb since Birmingham. He toughed it out for supercross, but the injury worsened, and he was forced to have surgery. The team is hoping to have him back for the final three or four nationals, as well as the SMX rounds.
Eli Tomac: Tomac recently had surgery on his thumb after sustaining a Bennett Fracture and tearing some ligaments. The team is hoping to have him back for the final three or four nationals, as well as the SMX rounds.
Aaron Plessinger: Plessinger will return to racing this weekend after fracturing his elbow in Foxborough.
Christian Craig: Craig will return for the season opener after ending his supercross season early due to a nagging elbow injury.
250 Class:
Austin Forkner: Forkner is out for the time being due to a bad crash in Arlington, in which he broke his L3 and L4 and scapula, injured his shoulder socket, and sustained bleeding/bruised lungs.
Jeremy Martin: Martin is out for the season opener after suffering two concussions recently.
Cameron McAdoo: McAdoo broke his scapula and sustained a partial tear in one of his shoulder muscles in Nashville. He’ll be back for the season opener of Pro Motocross.
Max Vohland: Vohland dislocated his hip during the supercross season and ended up having a very complicated recovery following surgery. He’s out for the opener.
Seth Hammaker: Hammaker is out for the opener after a practice crash this week.
Guillem Farres: Farres broke his femur early in supercross and is still in rehab. There is no timetable on his return.
Michael Mosiman: Mosiman sustained a neck injury and is consulting a specialist this week. He’s out for the season opener.
Stilez Robertson: Robertson is out of action for the time being as he recovers from a serious wrist injury. The team tells us that as of now there is no ETA for his return.
Derek Drake: Drake is out with a lower back injury that flared up during supercross. He’s going to have surgery but hopes to be back for a few nationals at the end of the season.
Enzo Lopes: Lopes underwent “Arm Pump” surgery on his forearms, which is claimed to help improve blood flow to the arms. This type of surgery usually takes a few weeks to recover from, but in Lopes’ case, it has been lingering over the last couple of months. He will sit out the opening rounds of the outdoors.
Despite these setbacks, the championship promises intense competition. In the 450 class, Jett Lawrence aims to continue his impressive streak after a perfect season in 2023, where he secured 22 consecutive moto wins. Challengers like Chase Sexton, Jason Anderson, and Jett’s brother, Hunter Lawrence, are eager to contest his dominance.
In the 250 class, with Hunter Lawrence moving up to the 450 category, the field is open for new talent to emerge. Riders such as RJ Hampshire, who showcased strong performances last year, will be looking to capitalize on this opportunity.
For fans eager to catch the action, the races will be broadcast live. The Peacock premium streaming service offers live coverage of the daytime qualifying sessions and each motocross race. International viewers can access live coverage through the SuperMotocross Video Pass streaming service.
As the gate drops at Fox Raceway, the 2024 AMA Pro Motocross Championship is poised to deliver another thrilling season of high-octane racing.
