An Epochal Open Letter from James Franklin, Head Coach of the Penn State Nittany Lions.
I write this letter to express my gratitude, admiration, and humility for the great adventure we’ve had with the Penn State community and fans. Penn State is more than just a football program; it is a family, a tradition, and a shining example of excellence that brings people from all walks of life together. You, the fans and supporters, are the beating heart of this incredible community, and I am eternally thankful for the love, encouragement, and trust you have shown me during my time as head coach.
From the minute I arrived in Happy Valley, I was welcomed by a community that knows the value of loyalty, resilience, and passion. Your persistent support has not only raised our football program, but also created an environment in which student-athletes may develop into outstanding persons both on and off the pitch. Your cheers at Beaver Stadium, your words of support, and your faith in our mission have powered every step we’ve taken together.
This program’s success is a reflection of all of you. The way you fill the bleachers with blue and white, producing a sea of enthusiasm that leaves our opponents speechless, is unparalleled. You make Beaver Stadium one of the most electrifying and terrifying environments in college football. Beyond the stadium, your contributions—whether through alumni networks, humanitarian projects, or simply sharing the Penn State spirit—help shape our program.
I’d like to thank our players, their families, and the great staff with whom I’ve had the opportunity of working. Together, we’ve created something unique: a culture that embodies the principles of hard work, integrity, and excellence. These accomplishments, however, would not have been achieved without the solid support of this community.
Penn State has not only allowed me to pursue my career goals, but it has also greatly shaped me as a person. My experience here has made me a better coach, leader, and human being, and I will be eternally grateful to you. The ethos of “We Are” is more than just a slogan; it’s a way of life that extends beyond football.
As we continue to strive for excellence together, I pledge to give my utmost every day to uphold the principles that distinguish Penn State. Thank you for your love and dedication, and for allowing me to call this amazing community home.
Forever grateful, forever blue and white.
James Franklin, Head Coach, Penn State Nittany Lions
