An Open Letter from Guard Kilah Freelon to the LSU Jakai Anderson Women’s Football Team and the Entire LSU University Community Following His Suspension by the NCAAW for Two Games
To my esteemed teammates, coaches, and the LSU University community,
I write this letter with a heavy heart and deep reflection on recent events that have led to my suspension for two games by the NCAA Women’s Football Association (NCAAW). I want to address the circumstances surrounding this decision, express my sincerest apologies to the LSU Women’s Football Team, the LSU community, and all those who have supported me throughout my journey. I understand that my actions have caused disappointment, and for that, I take full responsibility.
To my teammates, who have been a source of constant strength, camaraderie, and dedication, I want you to know that I did not intend for my actions to disrupt our shared goals or the team’s dynamic. Every moment spent on the field with you all is a testament to the bond we’ve formed, and I recognize the impact of my suspension on each one of you. My mistake was personal and, regrettably, it now affects the team as a whole. I apologize for this, and I promise to do better.
I have always been committed to our shared success and have prided myself on representing LSU with the utmost integrity. However, I understand that actions on and off the field must reflect the values of not only our team but also the institution we represent. While I am still processing the suspension, I want to assure you all that I will take this time to grow, learn, and become a better player, teammate, and individual.
To the LSU community at large, I ask for your understanding and patience. I know that my actions have impacted not only those closest to me but also the proud legacy of LSU. I vow to come back stronger and with a renewed commitment to uphold the standards of excellence that this university stands for. We, as athletes, are held to a high standard, and I fully accept the consequences of my actions. I promise to prove that this moment does not define me but will instead serve as a stepping stone toward personal growth and continued commitment to excellence.
The game we love is about teamwork, integrity, and respect, both for ourselves and for one another. I ask for forgiveness and for the chance to continue representing LSU with pride and honor. As I serve my suspension, I will dedicate myself to supporting my teammates, coaches, and staff, remaining fully involved in team activities and contributing to the success of our program however I can.
To the fans who have supported me and this team, thank you for your continued belief in me. I recognize that your support is not unconditional, but I am determined to earn it back. Your commitment to our team fuels our drive, and I will not let this moment of disappointment overshadow the incredible work we have ahead of us.
Finally, I want to express my gratitude to everyone at LSU for the opportunity to represent this great institution. I will use this time to reflect, grow, and return ready to continue pushing the boundaries of what we can achieve together.
I remain committed to LSU, my teammates, and the values we all strive to uphold. I look forward to coming back stronger and more determined than ever.
Thank you for your understanding.
Sincerely,
Kilah Freelon
