LUBBOCK, Texas – Texas Tech has officially added a big name to its softball program, announcing on Friday that Taylor Pannell, a former Tennessee standout, has transferred to the Red Raiders.

Pannell is coming off two impressive seasons with the Lady Vols, where she was named First Team All-SEC both years. She was also named a Second Team All-American by the NFCA (National Fastpitch Coaches Association), making her one of the most decorated players in the country.

Originally from Tennessee, Pannell made an immediate impact in the SEC as a freshman. She hit for power and average, finishing her two-year stint in Knoxville with a .345 batting average, 27 home runs, and 89 RBIs. She also brought consistency in the field, recording a .975 fielding percentage as a key piece of Tennessee’s infield.

Now she’ll bring that talent to Lubbock.

“I’m excited for this next chapter of my journey,” Pannell said. “I had a great experience at Tennessee, but I felt like Texas Tech was the right place for me — new goals, new challenges, and a coaching staff that really believes in me.”

Head coach Craig Snider spoke highly of the addition, calling Pannell a game-changer for the program.

“She’s a competitor, plain and simple,” Snider said. “She knows what it takes to win at a high level. She’s been in those big postseason games. That kind of experience and leadership is exactly what we need right now.”

Texas Tech is coming off a rebuilding season and has been active in the transfer portal to reshape the roster. Adding a proven player like Pannell could help them take a big step forward in 2026.

Pannell’s transfer also brings attention to Tech’s rising reputation in college softball. Under Coach Snider, the program has put a strong emphasis on recruiting top-tier talent and building depth through development and transfer additions.

“I want to help this team win,” Pannell said. “That’s what it’s about. I’m ready to get to work and do whatever I can to make an impact.”

Pannell is expected to join the team immediately and will be eligible to play in the 2026 season.
