Dear Collingwood Football Club, Magpie Army, and the whole Collingwood community,
There are times in life when words fail to express the amount of gratitude we feel. It’s one of those moments. As I sit down to think on my trip, I am filled with pride, emotion, and a strong sense of belonging. Being a Collingwood player—and, more lately, captain—has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. This club shaped not only my football career, but also the guy I am now.
Thank you to everyone at the club. I realized I was part of something bigger than myself as soon as I walked into the Holden Centre. Collingwood is more than just a football club; it’s a legacy. It’s a tapestry of heritage, passion, and the unwavering pursuit of perfection. I’d like to thank every coach, support staff member, and administrator who has shared this journey with me. You challenged me, trusted in me, and offered me the chance to lead. You created an environment in which I could develop not only as a key defender, but also as a student of the game and a leader.
To my teammates—my brothers—you have made each season special. Whether in triumph or adversity, we have stood shoulder to shoulder. You’ve encouraged me to contribute more, delve deeper, and lead with boldness. We’ve celebrated in front of sold-out MCG audiences and consoled one another in the privacy of the changerooms following hard-fought battles. Thank you for your trust, loyalty, and never-ending struggle.
To the Magpie Army: there is no force like you in the AFL. Week after week, year after year, your enthusiasm and pride remain unwavering. You’ve helped us when we needed it the most and praised us when we rose to the challenge. Your faith in me, especially during times of injury and suffering, was never overlooked. Whether it was a shout booming through the ‘G or a letter from a lifetime fan, I carried your energy to the field every game. You are Collingwood’s soul.
To the larger Collingwood community, thank you for allowing me to develop, stumble, and eventually rise with you. This path has not been without hurdles, but each lesson has served as a stepping stone. I grew up with both black and white blood, and I’ve got the unique opportunity to fulfill a dream at the club that my family has long adored. That is a legacy I will always cherish.
This letter isn’t a farewell, but a celebration. A homage to everyone who has walked beside me. No matter where this adventure takes me, I will always carry the black and white with pride. Collingwood is more than simply a club; it is a part of me.
With eternal thanks and affection,
Darcy Moore
