Met Gala Taps LeBron James, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky and Other Celebrities to Have a Role

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has announced that the 2025 Met Gala, scheduled for May 5, will center on the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” celebrating Black fashion and identity. The event will be co-chaired by notable figures including Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, and Anna Wintour, with LeBron James serving as an honorary chair.

The accompanying exhibition will explore the cultural and historical impact of Black fashion from the 18th century to today, highlighting Black dandies like Julius Soubise. The show will include various artistic interpretations and will be divided into 12 thematic sections.

The dress code for the gala, “Tailored for You,” encourages guests to creatively express their personal style through tailored looks, emphasizing menswear.

The exhibition, inspired by Monica L. Miller’s book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, will feature clothing, photographs, art, historical texts, and artifacts highlighting the significance of the Black dandy. Curated by Andrew Bolton and Monica L. Miller, it aims to challenge social and cultural hierarchies through dandyism.

The Host Committee includes notable personalities like André 3000, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Simone Biles, and more, with a dinner by Chef Kwame Onwuachi and decor by Cy Gavin, Derek McLane, and Raúl Àvila. The Met will host related talks and programs across New York City prior to the opening.

The 2025 Met Gala promises to be a significant event, honoring the rich history and influence of Black fashion and style.
