Frédérick Gaudreau of the Minnesota Wild is a nominee for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy.

April 17, 2025 — Frédérick Gaudreau, the centre for the Minnesota Wild, has been selected as the team’s nomination for the 2025 King Clancy Memorial Trophy, which is given each year to the NHL player who best demonstrates leadership both on and off the ice and has significantly impacted his community via humanitarian work.

Gaudreau was nominated after winning the Tom Kurvers Humanitarian Award, which the Wild give to a player who exhibits extraordinary leadership and community service. Before the Wild’s April 15 home game against the Anaheim Ducks, he received the award during an on-ice ceremony.

Gaudreau has a strong personal dedication to community service. Gaudreau has been an enthusiastic supporter of the Down Syndrome Association of Minnesota (DSAMn), motivated by his godson and nephew, Noah, who has Down syndrome. His efforts include working with his wife, Kjersten, to plan events like the Minnesota Wild Whisky and Wine fundraiser, taking part in the Hockey Without Limits Camp, and working with the Wild to provide ticket packages that help DSAMn. In an effort to spread awareness and encourage inclusivity, he joined his colleagues in donning mismatched socks during practice on World Down Syndrome Day.

The Minnesota Wild Foundation will make a $5,000 donation to DSAMn on Gaudreau’s behalf in appreciation of his contributions. The community has greatly benefited from his commitment to promoting inclusivity and helping those with Down syndrome.

In 81 games, Gaudreau has scored 37 points (18 goals, 19 assists) and had a solid season on the ice. He is third in the team’s power-play goals (five) and leads in faceoff victories (520). In 409 games throughout his eight-season NHL career, Gaudreau has scored 152 points (61 goals, 91 assists) while playing for the Minnesota Wild, Pittsburgh Penguins, and Nashville Predators.

A group of senior NHL officials will choose the King Clancy Memorial Trophy winner, who will be revealed at the NHL Awards later this year. In addition to their team being eligible for a grant of up to $20,000 from the NHL to support a connected community effort, the recipient will receive a $25,000 donation to a charity of their choosing.

Gaudreau’s nomination is a testament to his outstanding leadership and tireless dedication to changing the game on and off the court.
