An Epochal Open Letter from Donovan Edwards to the Michigan Wolverines Football Family, Fans, and Community

Dear Wolverine Nation,

As I sit down to write this letter, I am overcome with gratitude and emotion. Words seem insufficient to express how profoundly this adventure has affected my life and work. But, in the spirit of everything Michigan stands for—strength, solidarity, and resilience—I’d like to express my deepest gratitude to the people who have made this chapter of my life unique.

First and foremost, I’d like to thank the Michigan Football Program. Coach Harbaugh, the entire coaching staff, and my wonderful teammates—you all helped form me into the guy I am today. From the moment I stepped onto the legendary field of the Big House, I realised this was more than just a football program. This was a family. You believed in me, pushed me to my boundaries, and taught me that excellence requires persistent teamwork, discipline, and trust.

To my teammates, you are more than simply colleagues on this adventure; you are brothers. Every practice, every workout in the weight room, and every game beneath the stadium lights have been memories I’ll cherish for a lifetime. We’ve faced hurdles, celebrated wins, and grown stronger through hardship. You’ve been an inspiration and constant reminder that this game is about more than just the plays on the field—it’s about the relationships we form along the way.

To Wolverine fans—wow, where to begin? You are the heart of Michigan football. Your cheers have been the music to our victories, and your unfailing support in us has been our rock throughout the most difficult times. Whether it was a crisp autumn day at the Big House or a road game where maize and blue dominated the stands, your support was unmatched. You accepted me as a young kid with huge hopes and supported me every step of the way. Thank you for believing in me and making me feel like I was part of something bigger than myself.

To the wider Wolverine community—students, alumni, and Ann Arbour residents—you have created an atmosphere that has fostered my development not only as an athlete but also as a person. The excitement and passion that surrounds this university is contagious. Whether strolling through campus or spending time in the city, I’ve sensed your passion and pride for this team and its athletes. You’ve reminded me that being a Michigan Wolverine is more than a role; it’s a legacy.

As I prepare for the next chapter of my adventure, I want you to know that no matter where life takes me, Michigan will always be with me. The lessons I learnt here, the friends I formed, and the experiences I made will remain with me for the rest of my life.

Thank you for everything—your love, your support, and for creating an environment in which I could pursue my aspirations and develop into the man I am today. I am and will always be pleased to shout, “Go Blue!”
