Texas Tech Returns Home After Defeating No. 7 Houston in Overtime
LUBBOCK, TX — Texas Tech’s basketball team secured a thrilling victory over No. 7 Houston on the road, clinching a dramatic overtime win to cap off an intense matchup. The Red Raiders (14-9) displayed remarkable resilience and skill as they defeated the Cougars (20-3) 80-75 in a high-energy showdown that went the distance.
After a hard-fought regulation that saw Houston tie the game in the final seconds, Texas Tech stayed poised during the overtime period, outscoring the Cougars by five points. The Red Raiders’ defense, led by standout performances from senior guard De’Vion Harmon and freshman forward Robert Jennings, stifled Houston’s offensive efforts when it mattered most.
Texas Tech’s victory was a testament to their ability to execute in crunch-time moments. Harmon finished with 22 points, including key free throws in the final seconds of overtime, while Jennings added 15 points and 10 rebounds, dominating the glass. Houston, despite strong performances from Marcus Sasser and Jarace Walker, couldn’t find the basket when it counted, falling short after leading for much of the game.
“This was a total team effort,” said Texas Tech head coach Mark Adams. “We played hard, we believed in each other, and we showed a lot of grit. To come into this environment and take down a top-10 team is a huge step forward for us.”
The win marks a significant boost for Texas Tech as they head into their next homestand. The Red Raiders will return to Lubbock with renewed confidence, looking to build on this momentum as they prepare for upcoming Big 12 conference games.
Next up for Texas Tech is a home game against TCU, where they will aim to keep the positive energy flowing and continue their push toward the NCAA To
