The Detroit Pistons should trade for an NBA champion, according to Bill Simmons.

Although reliable veterans Dennis Schroder, Malik Beasley, and Tim Hardaway Jr. are all free agents, the Detroit Pistons will continue their years-long goal of acquiring and developing talent around Cade Cunningham this offseason with additions like Ausar Thompson, Ron Holland, and Jaden Ivey that appear to be long-term partners.

The Pistons have been encouraged to try to make a trade with the Golden State Warriors this summer in order to replace the scoring punch those guys provided.

After the Warriors recruited Jimmy Butler, Jonathan Kuminga has been the odd man out. With Butler in town, he has been demoted to a lower role and is most likely not going to play for Golden State next season, despite his gradual and steady improvement during his NBA career.

The Pistons are a perfect fit for him in a sign-and-trade, which is the most sensible course of action for a restricted free agent.

Bill Simmons remarked, “If I were the Pistons, let’s watch all the tape of Kuminga playing more than thirty minutes and try to figure out what that looks like on our team.” “I think he’s competitive, I really think there’s something there.”

Prior to Butler’s arrival, Kuminga averaged 16.8 points and five rebounds in 32 games. He was a good defender and shot 45.9 percent from the field and 34.5 percent from beyond the arc.

As the Pistons search for free agent replacements, Kuminga would be a good fit on the wings in the starting lineup, a position he has long desired, and he has postseason experience, though not as much this year.
