The Gamecocks of South Carolina are putting Air Noland in a position to become the team of the future.

LaNorris Sellers will be the quarterback for the South Carolina Gamecocks for at least another season. However, given that many predict he will be selected in the first round, there is a significant likelihood that Sellers will be heading to the NFL following this season. With regard to the quarterback situation, Air Noland is positioning itself as the Gamecocks’ quarterback.

Noland will not be the number two quarterback this season, though. Despite switching to wide receiver in the previous two seasons, Luke Doty saw some action at quarterback during the spring game. This implies that Doty might be the person the Gamecocks turn to if they ever needed a backup this season.

However, that should not be seen as disparaging Noland. He is still somewhat fresh to the scheme and the program overall because he transferred from Ohio State to South Carolina earlier in the offseason. Additionally, the 2026 window is the one to watch because Doty is about to enter his final year of eligibility.

Although Noland is a year older than Cutter Woods, the Gamecocks did get Woods in the 2025 class. In addition, South Carolina’s quarterback class for 2026 is a bit of a mess. Landon Duckworth is considered an Ole Miss lean, but they are in the running for him. The Gamecocks were a possibility, but Jared Curtis removed them from his list before committing to Georgia, and Brady Smigiel recently committed to Michigan.

All of that being said, it is laying the groundwork for Noland to be South Carolina’s future at the position. The space became even more open after the spring game when quarterback Dante Reno logged onto the transfer portal.

Noland is undoubtedly a name to keep in mind as the early contender, but there is still a long way to go before South Carolina has decide on their starting quarterback for 2026.
