Tottenham Hotspur has officially asked media outlets to stop using the club’s name as “Tottenham.. see full details..

Tottenham Hotspur has formally requested that broadcasters cease referring to the club as “Tottenham.” In a communication sent to Premier League broadcasters on February 10, the club specified that they should be addressed as “Tottenham Hotspur,” with “Spurs” as the preferred abbreviation. The directive explicitly states that the club should not be called “Tottenham.

This policy has been in effect since 2011, but the recent update aims to reinforce the club’s brand identity. The club’s brand guidelines, updated after Christmas, emphasize the importance of using “Tottenham Hotspur” or “Spurs” to enhance global brand recognition, aligning with practices of other prominent clubs like Manchester United and Manchester City.

Broadcasters have begun implementing this change. For instance, Sky Sports now refers to the club as “Tottenham Hotspur” during coverage, with “Spurs” displayed for the team.
