An Open Letter from Leon Draisaitl.
To the Edmonton Oilers, our amazing supporters, and the entire Oilers community,
As I pause to think on my trip, I am overwhelmed with thankfulness. From the first day I arrived in Edmonton as a young child with enormous goals to standing here now as a member of a team chasing greatness, I have felt nothing but love, belief, and support from everyone. This city, organization, and community have impacted not only my work, but also who I am now.
Thank you to the Oilers organization for believing in me, guiding me, and allowing me to develop into the player I am today. From management to coaching staff, trainers to teammates, I’ve always been surrounded by individuals who expected the best from me while also reminded me of the most important values—hard effort, loyalty, and respect. Wearing the Oilers jersey is more than just a job; it’s an honor that I take pride in every time I go on the rink.
I owe so lot to my former and current teammates. You’ve been my brothers through struggles, victories, and grief. Every shift, drill, and playoff run has contributed to the creation of something greater than numbers. I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished and much more eager about what lies ahead.
To Edmonton supporters, you are the franchise’s heartbeat. Your energy fills Rogers Place, and your passion follows us wherever we go. Whether it’s a cold winter night at home or a road game thousands of miles away, I feel your support. You accepted me from the start, embraced me as one of your own, and never stopped believing in this squad. Playing for you has been one of the most incredible experiences of my life.
And to the entire Oilers community, thank you for fostering an environment in which I could thrive. This city does more than just cheer for hockey; it lives, breathes, and loves it in a way that is unique to Edmonton. You have given me the opportunity to grow as an athlete and a man, for which I will be eternally thankful.
My career is more than just goals, assists, and awards; it is about the camaraderie we share, the pride of representing this city, and the unwavering quest of something greater than ourselves.
