To my teammates, coaches, supporters, and the Sun Devil Nation as a whole,
Nothing but thankfulness fills my heart as I sit down to compose this letter. Playing football has been more than just wearing the maroon and gold; it has been a privilege, a duty, and a calling that has molded me as a man and an athlete. I’ve been able to develop, learn, and push myself beyond boundaries I previously believed were possible thanks to the Arizona State Sun Devils. I will always be grateful for that.

I want to express my gratitude to my instructors for having faith in me despite the challenges. You pushed me, expected me to be my best self, and never allowed me to accept anything short than perfection. Talent may open doors, but preparation, discipline, and heart keep them open, as you reminded me every day. The lessons you instilled in me both on and off the field are largely responsible for my development.
My guys are like brothers to me. Together, we battled beneath the stadium lights, sweated in the desert sun, and celebrated wins that only we could truly understand the effort that went into them. More significantly, we formed unbreakable ties by supporting one another when things didn’t go our way. I will always cherish the memories of our huddles, our laughter, and our unwavering resolve. I am honored to call each of you family.
Your steadfast support has been nothing short of inspirational, Sun Devil Nation’s beating heart, the fans. You gave me the impression that I was performing for something greater than myself, from the crowded Tempe stands to the innumerable messages and words of support I got. I was reminded of the pride and tradition I had the privilege of representing each time I dashed onto the field and heard the thunderous cheers of the spectators. You cheered me on when I faltered and congratulated me when I succeeded.
Thank you to the entire Sun Devil community for giving me a place to call home, including the faculty, staff, students, and everyone else who proudly dons our colors. Arizona State has served as a stepping stone for who I am becoming as well as a stop on my football path.
I look forward to the future with a great deal of thankfulness and resolve. The Sun Devil spirit will always be a part of me, no matter where football and life lead me. This is where I not only played but also where I developed.
From the bottom of my heart,
Sam Leavitt
