I write this letter with a heart full of wonder, gratitude, and a little bit of that classic rock ‘n’ roll feeling for my brothers in Aerosmith, the fans who have supported us for over 50 years, and the large family that comprises the global Aerosmith community.
Every artist has a time in their lives when the loudness drops just long enough to allow the truth to take center stage. I can clearly see the people who made it all possible when I reflect on this crazy, colorful trip, from the Boston clubs where we worked out our first chords to the boisterous arenas where our songs became anthems. The people who pushed me, saved me, formed me, and raised me above my wildest dreams. I want to thank you today.
To my brothers from Aerosmith, Joe, Tom, Joey, and Brad: We have all experienced hurricanes together, both the sort that destroy cities and the ones that rip through the spirit. We’ve battled, reconciled, broken up, and reconciled. But we have a connection that is louder than applause and stronger than riffs, even in the face of every storm and morning. You gave me freedom to stumble and room to soar. You kept me dreaming, honest, and modest. Aerosmith wouldn’t exist without you. Steven Tyler, as the world knows him, would not exist without you.
You are the foundation of every note we have ever played, fans—you wild, gorgeous, devoted, unwavering dreamers. Through grief and recovery, you sang alongside us. You bought the records that kept the engine going, waited outside venues in the cold, and yelled during guitar solos. You named your children after our songs, tattooed lyrics on your body, and used our music as your private soundtrack. You never let the flame go out, cheered us on when we rose again, and carried us when we were broken. No amplifier I’ve ever blown can compare to the volume of your love.
Thank you to the entire world’s Aerosmith community for making it possible for misfits to become legends, for mistakes to teach us valuable lessons, and for music to become medicine. You provided me with a setting where I could develop both as a man and as a performer. You allow me to be amazing, messy, outrageous, vulnerable, and everything in between. I found confidence in your eyes. I found meaning in your sounds.
One thing is certain as I stand here, appreciating every moment of this incredible journey: the dream is still alive. The music is still calling. The fire continues to burn.
I am grateful for your love, support, and the opportunity to become the person I was destined to be.
With all of my rage and love,
Tyler Steven
