This letter is written with great emotion, humility, and thanks to the San Diego Padres organization, our amazing fans, and everyone of the Friars community. As I reflect on my journey thus far, I am struck by how much you have loved, supported, and believed in meβnot just as a player, but also as a person.
I was a young man full of aspirations, enthusiasm, and a desire to have an impact when I first put on a Padres shirt. At the time, I had no idea what it meant to represent not just a team but a whole city and community. I’ve discovered throughout the years that having the “SD” on my chest is a privilege that requires accountability, decency, and compassion. I’ve learned it from all of you.
Thank you to the Padres organization for providing me with the opportunity to develop as a person, a leader, and an athlete. From ownership to the coaching staff, you have helped me become the best version of myself by believing in me even when I made mistakes. This organization has been more than just a team; it has been a family that has supported me during my highs, lows, and times of introspection.
You are the lifeblood of everything I do, my fans. Your joy reminds me why I play this game, your faith keeps me steady during difficult times, and your cheers are louder than any doubt. Every game day feels like a celebration of something more than baseballβa celebration of communityβthanks to the passion, pride, and unity you’ve brought to Petco Park. Beyond numbers and home runs, you’ve given me meaning; you’ve given me the motivation to keep battling, growing, and motivating.
And I want to express my gratitude to the Friars community for creating a space where young athletes like me may grow, study, and dream. Your encouragement boosts San Diego’s spirit in addition to the team. You are the cornerstone that makes Padres baseball unique, from the kids donning our shirts to the local supporters who have supported us since the beginning.
I’ve grown, learned, and made errors, but your empathy and understanding have reassured me that love can create bridges stronger than doubt and that atonement is possible. My simple pledge as I proceed on this adventure is to honor this city, give it my all, and make every play matter for you.
